Introduction

Welcome to Patricia Cia Photography. The road to this point has been long and winding but I am excited to be here.

Now retired from work but not from learning, I consider myself to be in version 3.0 further developing my craft and ready to share. Providing context, back story, or a brief statement brings together also my love for words and for attempting to articulate what I am trying to express.

I foresee this website as a place to share with you images that resonate, stories that add depth, and an opportunity to continue learning.

Boy in red shirt pretending to fly in a brick courtyard that has many colourful umbrellas strung overhead.

Flight - the sunny day, sense of freedom under the canopy of unexpected colour.

The first story…

This image of the boy under the colourful umbrellas is special to me for a number of reasons.

  • I found this tucked away little parklet behind the Roundhouse entrance to the CanadaLine.

  • It was after a long walk around the seawall on a warm summer day and the peace amid the city encouraged me to sit on the cement wall.

  • I saw this boy playing and the colour of his shirt caught my eye… complementing the brick and contrasting the shadows cast by the umbrellas It took a while, but my patience was rewarded.

A unique experience

When I returned at other times, the sun wasn’t the same, the umbrellas weren’t as bright, and those interacting with the space didn’t have that same sense of play.

Post processing

  • Because of the hard contrast of light, I brightened some of the shadows and reduced the whites. I also adjusted the vertical lines for the building.

  • Being more familiar with Lightroom, that has been my tool of choice for selection and basic edits.
